Punjab Transforms Eid ul Adha Cleanliness Operations

As Eid ul Adha approaches — one of the most challenging times of year for urban sanitation — Punjab is doing something unprecedented. For the first time in the province’s history, Artificial Intelligence is being deployed at scale to manage, monitor, and modernize cleanliness operations across every city, town, and village. And at the heart of this transformation are eco-friendly electric bikes — a symbol of the Suthra Punjab vision coming to life.

🌿 A Smart Solution to an Annual Challenge

Every year, Eid ul Adha places enormous pressure on sanitation infrastructure. The volume of animal waste, offal, and sacrificial remains demands a rapid, coordinated, and large-scale response. In past years, this relied almost entirely on manual reporting, physical supervision, and reactive waste collection. The results were often inconsistent — garbage piled up in streets, drains were blocked, and accountability was difficult to enforce.

This year, that changes.

Under the Suthra Punjab Programme, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s government has launched a full-scale smart cleanliness drive, introducing AI-based monitoring for sanitation operations across the entire province. The scope is staggering: nearly 40,000 vehicles and 176,000 sanitation workers are being brought under AI monitoring — a level of oversight that was simply impossible through traditional methods.

⚡ Electric Bikes: Green, Smart & On the Ground

One of the most visible and exciting components of this initiative is the introduction of AI-equipped electric bikes. These bikes feature automated cameras capable of live image capturing and real-time field visibility, enabling continuous monitoring of streets, garbage points, and collection zones.

These are not ordinary patrol bikes. The units capture live images and relay field conditions directly to a central monitoring cell, giving supervisors a real-time picture of what is happening on the ground across dozens of districts simultaneously. Illegal dumping, delayed waste clearance, or neglected garbage hotspots are flagged instantly — without waiting for manual reports.

Being electric, these bikes also align perfectly with the environmental spirit of Suthra Punjab — reducing carbon emissions while keeping the streets clean. They represent a dual commitment: to a cleaner Punjab today, and a greener Punjab tomorrow.

📱 Technology Meets Accountability

The AI integration goes far beyond bikes. A dedicated mobile application has been launched for attendance and verification, with monitoring officers assigned to each union council. Daily meetings of managing directors have been made mandatory, and salaries of employees found absent after marking attendance will be deducted.

Container clearance will now require photographic evidence, making it harder for field teams to report work without proof. Sanitation workers have also been directed to wear uniforms, and vehicles must be kept clean to support a more disciplined and professional service culture across urban and rural areas.

A 24/7 helpline (1139) backed by an AI complaint system will remain active to address public grievances, ensuring citizens have a direct channel to report issues in real time.

⚠️ Strict Enforcement During Eid Days

The government is not relying on technology alone — strict penalties back it up. The Punjab government has announced a Rs.50,000 fine for dumping animal waste on roads, in drains, or at public places during Eid ul Adha. Suthra Punjab teams will remain active continuously for 72 hours during the Eid period, with emergency response teams and backup machinery on alert in every tehsil.

🏙️ A Vision Bigger Than Eid

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz noted that cleanliness standards in villages must match those in cities, citing Singapore and Japan as international benchmarks for round-the-clock maintenance. Suthra Punjab is no longer just a seasonal campaign — it is a long-term commitment to rebuilding how this province thinks about public cleanliness, accountability, and environmental responsibility.

The electric bikes buzzing through Punjab’s streets this Eid are not just collecting data — they are carrying a message: a cleaner, smarter, and greener Punjab is no longer a dream. It’s already here.
